This distinguished gentleman was Yeoman Bed Hanger Robert Kell VC, RVM former Trumpet Major 9th Lancers. He was awarded the Victoria Cross as a Lance Corporal whilst protecting his commanding officer on 28 September 1857 at Bolundshadur. He served with The Body Guard from 1881 until his death in 1905 and he rests in Lambeth Cemetary, London.
